NEEDLES
US 8 (5 mm) circular
16" (40 mm) cable length
US 9( 8.5 mm) circular
16" (40 mm) cable length
40” (100 mm) cable length or DPN’s for the crown decreases.
Note: Adjust your needle size as necessary to obtain gauge.
GAUGE
Measurements taken before blocking.
Stockinette Stitch, worked in the round with larger needles:
28 sts × 20 rnds = 4” x 4” (10 × 10 cm)

ABBREVIATIONS
k: knit
k2tog: knit two stitches together.
p: purl
p2tog: purl two stitches together.
st(s): stitch(es)
ssk: slip one stitch knitwise, slip another stitch knitwise, knit those two stitches together.
STITCH PATTERNS
Chevron Stitch Pattern
Round 1: P2, k10, p2. (14 sts)
Round 2: K1, p2, k8, p2, k1.
Round 3: K2, p2, k6, p2, k2.
Round 4: K3, p2, k4, p2, k3.
Round 5: K4, p2, k2, p2, k4.
Round 6: K5, p4, k5.
Round 7: K6, p2, k6.
DIRECTIONS
Using larger needles and the tubular cast on, cast on 76 stitches.
Round 1: *K2, p2; repeat from * around.
Repeat Round 1 until the piece measures 5” (12.7 cm) from cast on.
Next Round: purl around.
Begin Body of the Hat
Round 1: [K9, m1L] repeat 8 times, knit to the end. [84 stitches]
Round 2: [K14, p7, work Round 1 of Chevron Stitch, p7] twice.
Round 3: [K14, k7, work the next round of Chevron Stitch, k7] twice.
Round 4: [K14, p7, work the next round of Chevron Stitch, p7] twice.
Rounds 5 -8: Repeat Rounds 3-4.
Continue repeating Rounds 2-8, 3 more times.
Begin Decreases:
Round 1: [K2tog, k10, ssk, p7, work Round 1 of Chevron Stitch, p7] twice. (80 sts)
Round 2: [K2tog, k8, ssk, k7, work the next round of Chevron Stitch, k7] twice. (76 sts)
Round 3: [K2tog, k6, ssk, p7, work the next round of Chevron Stitch, p7] twice. (72 sts)
Round 4: [K2tog, k4, ssk, k7, work the next round of Chevron Stitch, k7] twice. (68 sts)

Turn the knitting inside out, then split the remaining 32 sts onto two needles.
Three needles bind off the remaining sts.
Weave in the ends and block your hat!
